Dear Teacher,

Governor Lynch has announced that New Hampshire is participating in the
Real World Design Challenge, a national design competition. The
governor will be holding a state competition, and the best team in the
state will be provided with an all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC
to compete in the National Finals.

Schools participate in the Challenge at no cost to them. And through a
partnership with the governor, companies will be providing $1 million in
professional engineering software to each teacher who enters a team.
Federal agencies, corporations, universities, and non-profits will be
providing expertise, and each participating team gets up to four mentors
in science, math, engineering, and aeronautical design.

For this year's Challenge, students will design the tail section of a
plane maximizing for fuel efficiency. Teams consist of three to seven
high school students with a teacher to coach them.

To learn more about the Challenge and sign up, visit
<http://www.realworlddesignchallenge.org/> and check out the
Teachers/coaches page. The Teachers guide has all the information you
will need. Follow the instructions on the page to get registered and to
train in the software.

Check out last year's National Champions giving their final presentation
at the National Air and Space Museum:

I hope that you participate in the Challenge, and that your school takes
advantage of these great resources that Governor Lynch has secured for
the students and teachers of New Hampshire.

I will contact you in the future to help you and your school sign up.
Please feel free to contact me.
