Bullying Awareness and Prevention Tutorial

In an effort to assist schools in providing training for ALL school
related employees, volunteers, substitute teachers and others, per RSA
193-F, the Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities Program and the NH
e-Learning for Educators Project, both programs of the New Hampshire
Department of Education, have developed this short and simple tutorial
training for bullying awareness. This tutorial can be done at any time,
thus reducing the need for scheduled trainings, substitute coverage,
presenter fees, etc.

This tutorial is divided into three sections: Understanding Bullying,
the Impact of Cyberbullying, and Understanding the New Hampshire Pupil
Safety and Violence Prevention Act. As each unit of the tutorial is
completed, participants will be asked to submit an online assessment
(quiz). Once the assessments for all three units are submitted and
evaluated, a Certificate of Completion for 3 hours of professional
development for this tutorial training will be sent. This certificate
can be used to demonstrate to schools that the participant has satisfied
the required basic training in bullying awareness and prevention.
Additional professional development opportunities should be offered
through your school, district, or SAU, annually. The registration fee
for this tutorial is $10.00. Click here to register

This tutorial was developed by NH e-Learning for Educators in
cooperation with Aprylle Desrosiers, Program Director for Title IV Safe
and Drug Free Schools and Communities.

While the 3 hour tutorial provides basic training, a more comprehensive
professional development course on bullying awareness (see course
description below) is also available through OPEN NH. The course is next
offered during the OPEN NH Summer 2011 Session
<http://nheon.org/opennh/courses/CurrentCourseSchedule.html> . Districts
interested in the course for a group of educators can also submit a
special request through a district cohort registration

CE-07 The NH Bullying Law: Policies and Procedures that Promote Positive
School Climates

NH created the Pupil Safety and Violence Prevention Act in 2000 that
required school boards to adopt a policy that addressed bullying in our
schools. The problem was growing nationwide then and has continued to
grow since. In 2010, the NH state legislature affirmed our belief in
developing a culture and climate in our schools that was safe and
promoted learning by strengthening the law. Bullying occurs in many
forms, with cyberbullying becoming more prominent as technology and
connectivity increases. In this course, you will examine the problem of
bullying as it relates to the education and protection of our children.
You will become familiar with strategies of prevention and for dealing
with victims and perpetrators alike. Finally, you will review pathways
for adding instructional activities dealing with bullying and creating a
safe environment for learning into your school curriculum. As a final
project, you will develop an action plan for implementing some of these
strategies into your schools.
