ITEM: Invitation to help devlop Digital Learning Day Toolkit
TO: Digital Learning Day Partners & Supporters
FROM: Kamila Thigpen, Digital Learning Policy & Advocacy Manager
SUBJECT: Digital Learning Lessons & Resource Ideas
DATE: August 8, 2014
With so many new types of digital devices, educational software and mobile apps being continuously developed, it can be hard to keep up with the latest advancements in educational technology. Digital Learning Day was started as a way to celebrate new ways of teaching and learning. It's an opportunity for teachers, librarians, informal educators and others working with youth to try out new digital tools and innovative instructional practices. The Center for Digital Learning, an initiative of the Alliance for Excellent Education, is seeking educators to assist with developing a set of Digital Learning Day Toolkits. The Toolkits will be organized by subject area and will contain a variety of lesson plans, online tools and helpful websites recommended by real teachers, librarians and educators using them in the field. Rather than duplicating the content on more comprehensive websites like Graphite, Edutopia and EdSurge-searchable databases of resources for educators-the Toolkits are intended to help educators find where to go for ideas about how to celebrate Digital Learning Day in classrooms, out-of-school programs and libraries. The Toolkits will cover the following subject areas:
* Language Arts
* Social Studies / Civics
* Arts & Digital Media
* Digital Citizenship
For each subject area, educators are invited to contribute lesson plan outlines, videos, helpful websites, mobile apps and other digital tools that can help others who may be looking for new ways to engage youth through digital learning.
