Requests for Proposals at the New Hampshire Department of Education<http://www.education.nh.gov/rfp/index.htm>

The Mathematics and Science Partnership (MSP) Program is a federal grant funded under Title II, Part B of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The MSP program funds professional development activities that are designed to improve mathematics and science teachers' content knowledge and teaching skills, and that lead to improved student learning. Partnerships must include faculty from the mathematics, science, technology and/or engineering (STEM) faculty of institutions of higher education (IHEs), and "high need" schools/districts (LEAs) with the purpose of improving teachers' knowledge and skills.

The New Hampshire MSP Program seeks ways to sustain intensive, high-quality professional development activities that focus on deepening teachers' content knowledge. It is also interested in increasing the knowledge of how students learn particular content, providing opportunities for engaging learning and establishing coherence in teachers' professional development experiences. In addition, it seeks to improve the content knowledge and ability to analyze student thinking of mathematics and science teachers in grade K-12.

All partnerships must ensure that their programs focus on: (a) recruiting, serving, and retaining teacher cohort groups from schools with the greatest academic or instructional need; (b) planning professional development activities that are sustained over time, intensive, classroom focused and job-embedded and aligned with state and local standards and local mathematics and science curricula; (c) reaching districts that may otherwise not be involved in professional development for various reasons, including remote geographic locations; (d) the understanding and integration of technology (including the incorporation of the NH Information and Communication Technologies Literacy Standards) and/or engineering; (e) teacher facilitation approaches that include project-based learning and competency instruction, and (f) showing evidence of ways in which building-level administrators will meaningfully participate with the teachers in the partnership's follow-up professional learning sessions.
