  *   A partial government shutdown, which began on December 22, is ongoing with no clear sign of any pending agreement to end it. The shutdown affects the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Justice, Homeland Security, Interior, State, Transportation, and Housing & Urban Development.
  *   The House rules package, approved on the first day of the 116th Congress, changed the House Education & Workforce Committee's name to the House Education & Labor Committee.
  *   The Senate HELP Committee will have three new members for the 116th Congress: Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT), Senator Mike Braun (R-IN), and Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV).
  *   The Senate approved the nominations of Brendan Carr and Geoff Starks to serve on the Federal Communications Commission.
  *   The House approved Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to serve as the Speaker of the House with 220 votes.
  *   Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) announced the creation of an exploratory committee for a 2020 presidential run.

Charter schools that receive funds under this program may also serve students in early childhood education programs or postsecondary students.
